The form that I found most enjoyable was the Limerick. I personally like when poems rhyme. Not only will it build a strong sense of phonetic awareness, but it makes the expressive words spunky and fun for both the reader and the writer.
Poetry is by far, my favorite form of expression. Although it is often too personal to share, it allows you to really express yourself in limited words, which is one of the most difficult things to do.

Poetry can show children a wonderful world of expression, freedom and intellect. It is so different from any other style of writing. Poems can be read or written to relate to any subject. Using limericks to remember facts is also very helpful. Below is an example of a quirky poem that can be used to teach facts about animals during science lessons:
The ant has made himself illustrious
Through constant industry industrious.
So what? Would you be calm and placid
If you were full of formic acid?
